Why does anything exist all?

Perhaps the most pertinent question that precludes any other form of inquiry is why is there something rather than nothing? Or simply put, why does anything exist at all? This appears to preclude any additional questions we have about reality, knowledge and existence. But what is something and what is nothing? Can nothing ever truly exist? Is why does anything exist at all? a metaphysical or scientific question or a combination of the two? Is why does anything exist at all? even an answerable question? More importantly is it even a viable question in the first place?
